I'm a little disappointed that the former wide-screen Acer only lasted a little more than four years. We like having a workhorse laptop for our main computing chores and browsing. A big screen laptop sits at the table on which we eat. That means it's right by the living room with an excellent view of the TV and back of the couch. Somebody can be at it during evening time and easily still participate in what's going on.
We 'made do' with my netbook during the evening. It's set up for ordinary use but it has a tiny 11-inch screen. That makes it perfect for me to take to school or on vacations. We needed more screen real estate for everyday work though. I got another 17.3 inch replacement. This one is a Toshiba. I wonder just how many years they've been using the model name of Satellite. I'm already typing on it at the moment.
Moving from one computer to another is definitely much easier and faster than in the olden days. Sign on and most everything is already there because of cloud-based services. It will be nice being up-to-date when having the same operating system on all the MS Windows computers. At present, the new machine is downloading updates. We are familiar with Windows 8.1 and that tiny learning curve was completed on other devices. This machine which came out of the box as Win 8.0 but will be upgraded soon.
