Day 044: We were talking about what we'd do today. We decided just to visit the next town down the beach. The town of Tamarin, Mauritius is really not far away but if we were to walk south down the beach, we'd run out of road at a point and come to a trail.
Rather than testing an unproven walk, we decided to take a bus out to the coastal highway and then another just a few extra kilometers to the town of Tamarin, and specifically a beach indicated on Google Maps.
The area is really laid back and quiet. This should be a peak season for people travelling over Christmas but we didn't see crowds, in fact, we barely saw anyone! How relaxing and what a beautiful area!
We slowly walked up the beach a kilometer or two. We saw where Riviere de Rempart meets the ocean. A walk through town only included a stop at a market to buy soft drinks. We went back out to the highway and caught a bus back to Flick en Flack Junction.
Jay and I decided to stop at the Cascavelle Shopping Mall and bought a few groceries. We got a yule log cake but that is in the fridge and won't be cut nor tasted until tomorrow! A choir set up and were playing some Christmas songs.
We didn't have to wait long for the second bus of our return trip. We were only gone for about three hours and were back for a lunch at the Airbnb. I immediately took a dip in the pool. No one else ever uses it!
Jay found a box with a few simple Christmas decorations in an Airbnb cupboard, so we strung some lights and hung some tinsel. We are putting up decorations for the proper amount of time: Up on Christmas Eve and down on Boxing Day.
