Getting from Seattle to Dubai in one fell swoop, so to speak, sounded good on paper. In the seat it was a little less appealing. Oh, the food on Emirates was good. They even came around between meals with snacks such as Kitkats or apples. It is just 14 hours with one seat and the aisle between it and the toilet is a bit much. I didn't feel like using the in-flight entertainment system; yet there is a whole lot on offer. I slept a lot just not well, in fact quite awfully. It would almost better not to have slept at all. Only a few times did I want to pull at my hair and run around the plane screaming.
Dubai is exactly 12 hours ahead of our time, so we got there a half hour early at 7:15 pm. I was impressed with Terminal 3 and the ease of coming through customs. In fact, the whole walk to the Metro was easy and we changed lines, and got off pulling bags at the Palm Deira stop quite effortlessly.
We checked into our cheap hotel in the old part of town. We prefer this type of stay over what most tourists see of Dubai, I'd bet.
We just walked a bit and bought provisions for the hotel-room fridge and made it to the creek. We figure it is time to go to bed now. We are the type of tired that feels like a headache. It does seem nice to be back in this city for a few days. We were last here six months shy of twenty years ago!
