Day 069: I love summer. I love Saturdays. I love Saturdays during the summer and that's exactly what we experienced today in Cape Town, South Africa. Let me mansplain for all the gals in the audience here:
As we are in the southern hemisphere, this converts to a similar date of July 18th up in the north. Humm, that's fairly near my birthday. Nowadays, I'd rather not have two of THOSE per year, I guess! Anyway, our present location is near the southwestern tip of Africa at around 34°S latitude. This latitude is fairly equal to the US city of Los Angeles in its distance from the equator, we're just on the bottom side of it. So, Jay and I will have no winter, again, this year!
This morning, I searched Google Maps for a nearby Indian grocery store. Jay picked up most items in a supermarket but he wondered about more tradtional spices. Of course, due to history, there are quite a number near our location. I selected one called, Atlas Trading Co. and requested a walking route. It was less than a kilometer from our apartment in another part of the city called Bo-Kaap. This was our first day to see it.
Right away, we noticed the colourful buildings as we walked up Wale Street towards Signal Hill. We'd found one of the oldest existing neighbourhoods in Cape Town.
Life and learn!
