Day 071: The weather forecast this morning showed some clouds but I'd be damned if I could spot many. We have a large list of things to see and do while in Cape Town. Fortunately, we have until the middle of next month to do them.
Today, I looked at a map of Cape Town and thought we could try getting over a bit closer to Green Point. We went downstairs and opened the Uber app. It took only about fifteen minutes. The pricing was around $US 3.25. So for a bit more than US$ 1.60 each, we can easily get around the city.
What I learned was the distances on Google Maps looks much shorter on the map. We didn't walk to the lighthouse but headed towards the Cape Town Wheel near Victoria Wharf. That meant we got pretty close to the DHL stadium. It felt like a longer walk than it really was.
Next, we spent a lot of time trapsing through the oversized shopping mall. The Woolworth's was very swanky. It had a grocery section but we just 'window shopped'. It took a bit more walking to find the exit back to the V&A Waterfront.
We visited the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront when our ship first arrived in this city. The area is a mixed-use suburb of Cape Town near the port. The area is much older than the present developments. The harbour facilities date back to the mid-1600s and the Dutch East India Company. The present neighbourhood has several districts and includes the mall, residential, an aquarium and art museum. The major work on the V&A began in the 1980s.
It is a beautiful area at this time of year and over 10,500 miles from our home in Vancouver. We took another Uber back to our apartment in the early afternoon.
