Today I wanted more time to catch up with my own location and had planned to just stick around and get into a rhythm where only simple things matter. The fates conspired. In the last 24 hours it has pretty much been a constant deluge although things have settled down in the past few hours. November signals the start of the tourist season, so bring on the sun! Also, within the last hour the electricity has come back on. Rumour has it, a huge tree brought down five power-line poles out on the Negombo road.
Over 25 years ago, when I first saw this house, power had not come to the neighbourhood. Nowadays it's pretty hard to imagine life without it. For 20 hours we were without television, water pump, lights, and a way to keep all the devices charged up. So having it return, just as it was getting dark, was a cause for joy.
I fear I succumbed to a three-hour nap again today. Coming this way, for this distance, does take its toll for around one week. All the better reason to make sure a trip here is sufficiently long.
