Rail seems the most logical method of passenger transport over medium distances. In many places other than North America, it is still feasible to take the train.As well as in Europe, we've travelled by train in China, Indonesia, India, Kenya, Morocco, Sri Lanka, and Thailand. In fact, travel is easier when the city has a main station or two. They're usually right in the middle of the city and generally have plenty of hotels clustered around them.
We will be taking a train to get from Cairo to Luxor next month. The ENR currently runs nine trains each day. Last year, we went on a night train from Cairo all the way to the the city of Aswan.
As we're not going as far this time, it might be fun to take a day train up the Nile River valley. The one which leaves at 8:00 AM gets to our winter destination at 6:15 pm.
Presently, a one-way, second class ticket costs around US $7.60. If we spring for first, we will each need to pay US $14.55.
