As well as in Europe, we've travelled by train in China, Indonesia, India, Kenya, Morocco, Sri Lanka, and Thailand. In fact, travel is easier when the city has a main station or two. They're usually right in the middle of the city and generally have plenty of hotels clustered around them.
We will be taking a train to get from Cairo to Luxor next month. The ENR currently runs nine trains each day. Last year, we went on a night train from Cairo all the way to the the city of Aswan.
As we're not going as far this time, it might be fun to take a day train up the Nile River valley. The one which leaves at 8:00 AM gets to our winter destination at 6:15 pm.
Presently, a one-way, second class ticket costs around US $7.60. If we spring for first, we will each need to pay US $14.55.
