There's probably something to be said for traditional music radio. It's kind of nice having a voice break in once in a while to introduce a track. It's even nice to get a feeling of where once in a while. And unlike when listening to Pandora, if a song comes on that's not a favourite, there's no option but to suffer through it. Then next, something perfect, that you'd never have thought of comes on. I fear computerized music genre algorithms might be a little too precise and the mix a little too calculated. Besides, who wants to completely give up on hearing the idiot muffler repair shop owner extol the virtues of his business?
There's an excellent application for my Android phone called Tunein. I often explore there, then when I find a station I like, I add it to my media server directly. Unfortunately, Tunein doesn't have a web interface. I'm a little concerned that I spent the last few hours listening to music from the 60's, 70's, and 80's streaming through the home theatre system. Most of that stuff was never meant to come out of five speakers but thanks to a DTS audio card in my old PC, it can. The scary part is only the fact the Palm Springs, California DJ keeps referring to 98.5 KDES as The Oldies Station. OMG. I thought oldies radio was from the 40's and 50's. When did THIS happen?
