Day 3 - We ate breakfast at our hotel and checked out at around 10:20 am. Our train wasn't scheduled until 12:39 pm. We had plenty of time to hang around the Station Santa Lucia in Venice. It is a happening place and it's always fun to spend a little time 'people watching'.
We boarded the regional train about 15 minutes before departure. It was nice equipment with a Hitachi engine. There were about ten stops before we disembarked exactly on time at the station in Trieste, Italy at 2:44 pm.
It wasn't hard to find the B&B Hotel upon our arrival. We only needed to cross the park in front of the station. We checked in for two nights quickly and easily with our Expedia reservations.
We walked towards the city center. The weather is warmer than what we left behind in Venice although this is only around 160 kilometers away. We noticed different weather and geography.
We rested a bit in the room and went out for dinner at 7:30 pm. We also checked out several close supermarkets but didn't buy much. I got a bottle of interesting Syrah wine for around $US 3. But, of course, Italian hotels have a corkscrew at reception!
We have the whole day tomorrow in this city. It is at the northern part of the Adriatic sea and very close to the borders of Slovenia and Croatia. We'll be taking a train to the capital of the former on Friday. We've never set foot in any of the locations for the rest of this trip. We will be adding a few new entries to the list of 93 counties we've visited during our lives.
