Day 5 - We validated our tickets about a half hour before the train was due to leave. We had already checked out of the B&B Hotel in Trieste around noon. The train was waiting and we boarded it as soon as the conductor unlocked the doors. There were just three long cars heading to Vienna. We only stayed onboard until around 3:50 pm. It was a picturesque journey to the capital of Slovenia. The train station in this city is undergoing a massive replacement but it was easy to walk from the platform and right out to the road in front.
Our hotel was around 800 meters from the station. It is the Meksiko Hotel. The reason for the Mexico name in the middle of this city is a very interesting piece of history that I'll go into detail in a future journal entry while we are staying. We have three nights in the hotel giving us time to explore this city.
Our hotel is around a fifteen minute walk to the center of the city. What a fascinating location!
This was a place that I instantly loved. That happens less often than when travelling in my youth. I refuse to think of myself as 'jaded'. Rather, I am harder to impress because I've seen a great deal. Yet, I can already say that I love Ljubljana!
Of course, it is the beginning of the weekend and I'm happy we're here during this time. What a lovely place with such a happy, clean environment. I am positive that you'll read a lot of gushing text in this journal as we explore it more, in fact, until Monday!
