Day 050: Today, we had a great big thunderstorm. This was the first rain we'd seen since being away. It didn't rain in Dubai, Zanzibar, or Dar es Salaam as we headed here. We didn't have any rain during our stay in Madagascar either. Jay and I have been here in Mauritius for three weeks, and this is the first shower. It was due. The garden will be happier.
In the morning, we noticed the dark clouds were rather prominent when walking to the Jumbo Supermarket at the other end of Flick en Flac. I brought along a USB key with a PDF file for our luggage tags. Although NCL will let passengers board with electronic tickets, they mandate printed tags be pre-affixed to show the cabin number. This is to increase the efficiency of the check-in and loading process. We found an electronic shop right in the same complex as the supermarket. He printed out the tags we will require next Sunday. We did a little shopping and walked back to the apartment.
The rain started about 1:00 pm and it came down quite heavily for a few hours. The roads outside were flooded. Our swimming pool became overfilled. It was great to be inside and watching from the second-floor apartment. I love tropical thunderstorms for their noise. At home in Vancouver, we may have weeks of rain but hearing thunder is extremely rare.
It was all over by the time we woke up from our afternoon nap. It took a while for the puddles to disappear but the later afternoon and evening were pleasant.
