Day 048: We jumped on a #57 bus today. We'd not seen the city of Quatre Bornes. The Airbnb owner's dad said that Wednesdays and Saturdays were big market days there. So, we thought it'd be interesting to see today.
The bus did not take a short direct route but instead took a trip through Bambous to pick up passengers. If you repeat that town's name you can easily figure out what it means in English even if it is spelled differently and not plural.
We found the place. We walked through the fruit and vegetable section in one direction and it was crowded. Very crowded. In fact, we decided to go back to the road by skirting around the outside of the two-block building.
We didn't buy anything but decided to take the LTR tram into Port Louis. The return bus from there would only be slightly longer than the slow and tedious way we had arrived in Quatre Bornes. By the way that town means 'four borders' in English and it was the point at which old sugar plantations met, I read.
The modern tram brought us down from higher land to Port Louis.
We picked up some sandwiches after buying a couple of bottles of 7 Up.
The bus back to Flick en Flac took over an hour and was a private one. They are the only type we happen to get on and it was slow and uncomfortable. However, that added to the idea that we had accomplished quite a thorough trip on our Saturday.
