Day 28 - Jay and I visited the Palm Jumeirah on a stopover in 2015. We've been back to the city twice since but not back to the island. Today, it seemed like a good option and a chance to show Jay's sisters as they didn't see it on their previous trip here.
You've probably seen pictures of these artificial islands before. Back nearer the beginning of the millennium, the photos from space were often shown. The houses look more at home now. We took the monorail to the top of the palm. We walked around the public spaces of the Atlantis resort. There is a new mall one can stop at along the way but we weren't in the mood for shopping.
Shopping seems to be what we do during the evening. It's practical shopping mind you. That means less upscale and more pedestrian. Jay's sisters can surely outshop any competition I could name.
It took us quite a while as it takes nearly 45 minutes on the Metro. The Metro system seems like one thing that Dubai didn't over-develop. It's at capacity for many hours per day, including the ones we travelled! Then, we needed to transfer to the light rail system and finally walk to reach the beginning of the privately owned monorail. Of course, we had to do it in reverse to get back to Bur Dubai. We didn't get back until 2:30 pm.
