Day 8 - The breakfast was auspicious with milk rice, lots of fresh papaya, several bananas, some palm sugar, and onions/chilis/dried tuna flakes.
The milk rice is a mixture of red rice and green gram with coconut milk. It's served on an ordinary plate and pressed into a one-inch layer. Then it's cut into serving-sized sections.
This picture is the tiny road we see when we open the property gate. In a few hundred meters, around the corner, we get to the main Koppiwatte Road. Koppiwatte means 'coffee garden'.
Jay and I went to the ARPICO Super in Minuwangoda. It's only a kilometer and a half from the house, but we ordered a ride-share tuk tuk both going and coming. One reason was they have a liquor department for me. I bought both beer and arrack. Jay picked up some vegetables. There are now three other supermarkets in town that we prefer. After getting home, the 'fish guy' came. He sells seafood in this neighbourhood and shouts, "Malu, malu" from his bicycle! The cats like eating a really small type of fish, so his younger sister bought some. They can tell him they want prawns and he'll make sure to bring them on the subsequent day. Even though there are now many modern supermarkets from which to choose, there's still a place for small entrepreneurs. We often buy bakery goods from modified tuk-tuks. On the road, they play a tune just like an ice cream truck, so everyone knows they're coming ...
