Day 9 - Jay and I called a PickMe tuk-tuk and went to do a little shopping at Keells supermarket. We got let off by the Minuwangoda bus terminal. We wanted to walk a bit of the main city area.
The town has changed a lot since I first saw it in the 1980s but what hasn't in that amount of time? The thing that impresses me most is the sheer growth. The main road into town runs to the airport the other way. What used to be a jungle is all built up now. The traffic is literally nonstop nowadays.
The city center itself has more shopping options and people have changed their habits as a result.
We got the things we were looking for. The financial meltdown of a few years ago ended up devaluing the Sri Lankan rupee. Everything looks so much more costly, but we have to remember that we get twice as much money when we change Canadian dollars.
