My situation in life has affected my collection of clothing. Since I've not worked for coming up on nine years, I started focusing on having just short-sleeved shirts. We usually winter somewhere warm so my normal attire is a short-sleeved shirt, shorts, and a pair of sandals (and often underwear). However, my shirt collection was getting fairly unwieldy. As I always go for the same three or four shirts, I decided it was time to do some honest appraisals and donate a batch to the thrift store.
My plans didn't go quite as planned. First, when I tried on some shirts that I'd not worn in years, they seemed fine. I don't know why I was ignoring them. Therefore, next, I moved to the older shirts, the ones that I'd worn in photos from our not-so-recent past. When I put them on, they felt comfortable and still seemed to have a lot of remaining life. It was time for me to try another criterion. Lastly, as my life is pretty chill (and I'm a bit hefty), I seldom want to tuck-in a shirt. So, I started searching for ones with long tails. I could dispatch those. Guess what? Most of my shirts were already casual and Hawaiian cuts.
Alas, I was able to bundle up a mere four shirts. I walked to the closest thrift shop down on Columbia Street. I brought them around back to the place where items are dropped off. I felt a tiny less burdened.
Then, I walked around by the front door to the thrift shop and decided to see what was inside. I bumped into a great shirt with green and blue hibiscus flowers. The label says, Groovy Bay. It was so old-fart-kind-of-guy style that I just HAD to have it.
So, I have three fewer short-sleeved shirts than this morning. Maybe I should go through the collection again.
