Day 11 - The weather forecasts are proving relatively meaningless for the Côte d'Azur. As we still have a leisurely three weeks remaining, we have been trying to follow the reports in order to plan day trips. Today showed overcast and showers. It's late afternoon and today has been beautiful so far. In fact, despite the prognostication of weather chaos since we arrived, we've not really seen rain yet.
Anyway, after a late breakfast, we walked about 15 minutes to the Russian Cathedral. Photos and videos were not allowed inside the building. It was typically dark and ornate as Orthodox churches usually are. I enlisted MS Bing's AI to help give a little background for my blog post:
"The St Nicholas Orthodox Cathedral in Nice, France is an Eastern Orthodox cathedral located in the French city of Nice. It was opened in 1912, thanks to the generosity of Russia’s Tsar Nicholas II. The cathedral was consecrated in December 1912 in memory of Nicholas Alexandrovich, Tsarevich of Russia, who died in Nice. It is recognized as a national monument of France and it currently belongs to the jurisdiction of the Moscow Patriarchate. The cathedral is considered one of the most important orthodox buildings outside the Russian Federation. It is also the largest Eastern Orthodox cathedral in Western Europe."
Oh, yeah. Along the way there, I stopped to take this photo for a friend in Vancouver. Timothy's a fan of Royal Enfield motorcycles.
