Monaco is only 21 minutes away from Nice by train. We purchased tickets at the station yesterday and had no trouble getting on the 9:50 train this morning. We disembarked in Monoco inside the mountain as one has to exit from the tunnel.
First, we walked down to the famous casino, We got a good look at the lobby only. We're not gamblers but would've balked at an €18 entrance fee anyway. We will have to re-watch the 2004 film, Ocean's Twelve, for a more complete look, I guess.
We walked around the corner of the building and headed down the hill toward the harbour. We could look back and see the Mediterrean-Sea side of the building which contains the Monte Carlo Opera House.
There was all sorts of building and construction going on. Remind me to return when Monaco is completed! Our path down took us quite far from the casino, but it was downhill! My watch informs us that we've been regularly putting on more than ten or a dozen kilometers per day since being here.
After walking past a number of ordinary, run-of-the-mill super-yachts, we crossed the road. In the ravine behind a church, we walked directly up to the train station.
We took one more look around on the streets above the train station by using publicly-accessible elevators. Finally, we went back down into the station and bought tickets to Nice-ville. We sat upstairs in a double-decker back to our neighbourhood station in Central Nice.
I can say I've been to Monaco now. Yet, there are a lot of French Riviera locations we plan to visit before our direct flight back to Montreal, QC on June 28th.
