Day 21 - Jay served lunch in the apartment. We ate chard, green beans, carrots, beetroot, stir-fried chicken curry, and an omelet on rice. I'm using the photo as a prompt to mention grocery shopping here. Often, it is hard to come by good supermarkets in the middle of many cities. This is not so in Nice, France! We have a large number of places to buy food. Our area, near the central train station, also has at least six stand-alone butcher shops. There are also bakeries and quite a number of independent places to buy fresh vegetables and fruits.
We are eating well here for about the same price as in Canada. Many products may be a little cheaper. This is one thing that people don't understand when we say we're going somewhere for a long period of time. They wonder how we can afford it. The cost of living for essentials isn't that much different. Some exceptions exist, but for everyday needs, we need to spend similar amounts of money. Interestingly, when in some favourite destinations it works out to be substantially less!
