Thoughts on Day Four

Day 4 - The weather was windy and rainy last night but we've not seen much daytime rain since arriving.  It keeps showing in the forecast but the weather here is unlike Vancouver's.  We're used to entirely rainy weeks but here we might encounter an hour of rain one morning but sun the rest of the day.  Of course, sometimes the sunshine may be in the morning and rain may arrive in the afternoon.  This might make planning the large number of day trips over the next month a little difficult.

     

Grocery shopping is good here. There are dozens of large and small supermarkets within walking distance. Today, we hiked a kilometer to a large Carrefour and passed close to two small city versions of the same brand. All have large fruit and vegetable sections.   Until today, we have only shopped in a large LiDL and  Monoprix.  The assortment of specialty foods everywhere is inspiring though. However, we'll probably end up visiting a small, Arab market nearly across the street from our apartment for many of our food needs.

This morning we passed the Basilique Notre-Dame de l'Assomption.  It was on our way and we went inside to take a look around. 

There's a Russian Orthodox Cathedrale named, Saint-Nicolas de Nice near but we didn't walk that way yet.  Wealthy Russians discovered southern Frace, during the late 1800s and early 1900s.
