Day 73 - We are still taking trips to get a better idea of north Buenos Aires. The name Palermo seems to be used for a vast area. It encompasses a dense residential and shopping area but is bounded by an equally large area of green parks.
Today, we got off Line D at Bulnes. As we were right in front of the Alto Palermo Mall, we went inside for a look around. We didn't find the movie theatres there but have since noted on Google Maps that Cinemark has a newish-looking, stand-alone building just two blocks away. Perhaps we can try that for our 'cheap-Wednesday movie day' this week.
We did enjoy a bit more of Avenue Santa Fe, which is a busy but pleasant street lined with enormous old Arbutus trees. We walked around two sides of the Botanical Gardens and ended up at the Plaza Italia subway stop. We knew that area from our trip to the Eco-Park a while ago.
The more we get to know this city, the more I love it. This seems like a bit of Europe in South America. I marvel at how everything seems to work even under such poor financial leadership. For example, municipal services seem to operate efficiently and well. Society appears open and liberal. Argentinians are from a vast variety of backgrounds and experiences.
Buenos Aires is earning my respect and favour. It seems a place I could visit again and again. Unfortunately, it feels a little out of the way from North America.
