The building has quite a long and distinguished history. The site dates back to 1893 when the first section of the city's fruit and vegetable market was opened. Some of the present construction operated from 1934 to 1984 as retail and wholesale for vegetables, fruit, meat and fish.
When a newer wholesale market was built out of the central city, the building was left abandoned. It wasn't until the 1990s the present mall was envisioned. It was refurbished mid-decade and opened in 1999.
It is quite nice, but a mall is a mall. We discovered its movie complex and will probably rush to see the new Avatar before it disappears from theatres. We also walked across the street to a large COTO supermarket. We usually frequent a small neighbourhood branch.
This large one had a much greater variety and we did a little grocery shopping before reversing our subway route to Saenz Peña.
