Day 54 - I've been coming for decades and Majestic City has been there. Today, we took an Uber to the old shopping mall for something to do. That area is near the Bambalapitya Station. The southern trains leave the Fort and run down the seaside when leaving the city.
We walked around inside but it was too early for lunch in the food court and also not time to take in a movie at the upstairs cinema.
So, we walked out to the road that used to be called Marine Drive. I think it's called the Colombo Plan Road now and it has been improved and fashioned to be an alternate way of getting into the city. The road is wide now but not very beautiful. The train tracks are between the road and the sea. We trooped all the way to Wellawatte. A few kilometers south is the first part after leaving the Galle Face Green where there's a beach.
A handwritten sign warned us against swimming because an alligator had been spotted. They aren't usually out in the ocean but I suppose a canal or river can get a bit constraining. We weren't going to go in the water anyway. Yet, it might have been an option to cool off. The weather seems extremely warm to us.
As we were next to the Wellawatte Station, we walked a few steps to Rio Ice Cream. It's sort of famous and was busy but I was not as impressed as during previous years. There were no tables and chairs in which to relax due to the COVID restrictions. So, we drank milkshakes quickly. They make them with real fruit. Mine was pineapple and Jay got a mango.
We got a return rideshare from Rio. It took around a half-hour to go back to the house in Nugegoda.
