Day 53 - Sri Lankan lamprais is a true staple of local cuisine. As Wikipedia points out, this dish had its beginnings during the Dutch rule of the country in the 16th century. There are a number of standards by which to judge lamprais today, but everybody, of course, feels that their own is most true to the original.
We had these for lunch via Uber Eats. We ordered from Sen-Saal, Nugegoda. Jay's and mine included chicken but Jay's sister chose fish. Even though the cost of food is skyrocketing here, eating out is cheap by international standards. Lamprais is a great meal to order as preparation takes hours and hours. Separate components must be individually created and combined.
Even getting into the banana leaf in which it was baked requires a little effort. The results with the rich, spicy mixture of ingredients are worth the effort.
