We only bought a few things and rather than walk back, we headed towards the Creek. On the map, it didn't look far and it wasn't. Before the water, we could see the Al-Fahadi Historial Neighbourhood as we were walking.
Ah-ha! These are the buildings we noticed from across the Creek at the Deira Abra Station. It is an area that represents community life prior to the 1970s and is an excellent location for tourists to visit. The emphasis is now on cultural preservation and the encouragement of the arts.
Entering the area is always free and the neighbourhood never closes although I don't think there are any residents. There are small museums and galleries on diverse subjects such as the history of Arabic coffee. There are also cafes and many places to relax.
We will definitely go there during the evening and just stroll through the narrow alleys and along the Creekside.
The historical area is a very nice juxtaposition to the glass skyscrapers and artificially-frigid multitude of gargantuan shopping malls of Dubai.
