I never really knew some fruits until I left home. I might have not been able to tell a papaya from a mango. When growing up, our family did not buy tropical fruit as they probably weren't available in the northern, rural supermarkets of the 1970s.
In Playa del Carmen, Jay makes fresh fruit salads. We have some daily as dessert at lunchtime, usually with a bit of yogurt or ice cream. In today's there was: pineapple, papaya, passion fruit, melon, mango, raisins, almond slices and a bit of vanilla. We eat the guavas and grapefruit separately.
We're lucky to live in British Columbia during the short summer season of great Okanagan fruit. Cherries, nectarine, prune-plums, and apricots make our favourites list during summers. However, access to tropical fruit now makes our retirement-winters delicious too.
