We ventured to the the main few shops on our side of the river in the morning. We found frozen chicken breast, so we had our first lunch at home. Jay is an excellent cook and, honestly, part of the fun of travel is buying locally and appreciating how the ingredients create good food.
We most definitely did not have a fully-stocked pantry for the preparation of our first meal. Middle Eastern, Asian, and South Asian inspired foods require a lot of spices. It is a bit hot around midday, so we chose to venture across the river in the evening. As always, we took the public ferry and paid our equivalent of a US quarter to go and come.
We found many of the types of shops we were looking for. We bought all our supplies at one of them. Jay spent almost $20 but managed to get: cumin, coriander, turmeric, black pepper, chili powder, cinnamon powder, and four nutmeg seeds. We'll be set for a while.
