This situation didn't happen by accident. We've have been trying to ensure we have as little as possible now that we plan on being away 5 or 6 months a year. Three important actions have allowed us to cut down. First and probably most importantly, we informed our delivery guy that we no longer wanted to get any unsolicited envelopes or advertisements. All we needed to do, to ensure that we only got addressed mail, was to write a note indicating our wishes. The effect of that one action was enormous. Next, of course, our electricity, Internet, television, and even property taxes are now billed by email. Just getting rid of paper bank statements helped out a real lot. Lastly, we have been getting our names off from charities and business mail-outs. As soon as an unwanted envelope arrives, we've been calling the organization to demand our address be deleted.
Taking these three steps seems to have paid off handsomely. I don't feel bad at all in giving my postman a break. It will undoubtedly make emptying the box much easier for us next April.
This pile was waiting last April after our Winter in Mexico.
