Day 8 - Hanging in Upper Egypt

We found out last night our trip to Abu Simbel wouldn't run this morning. That was probably for the best as we didn't wake up until 8:00 am today and being out of bed at three might have been a bit difficult. We ate breakfast at the hotel and then just walked out into the warm morning air. It is hotter here than it was down in Cairo.

We found some really bored guys at the tourist office and asked a few questions. They were happy to give us brochures. Jay noticed that it is the same ad campaign that we see running on the monitors of the SkyTrain back in Vancouver. We we not sure how many cruise ships are running the Aswan-Luxor route during this tourist slump and late season. We walked down the corniche stopping and asking at the ones which looked open. Actually, we returned to the first of three. After pleading that I was a poor teacher, we haggled down to full board, double room for $55 a night. Okay, let the floos change hands.

Loving it.

We are hoping to see Abu Simbel tomorrow. Then we will come back early in the afternoon, eat lunch, and then check out of the hotel and into the boat. We'll be aboard for four nights, getting off in Luxor. We just booked a room there on this computer before I started writing this.

Pleading for a Deal for a Teacher

I am sort of looking forward to being unplugged for a few days. I cannot remember when I have been five days between postings in my eJournal. I will still be writing every day, but the slew will hit the internet when we get to Luxor. As I said on Facebook, Cleopatra lived quite nicely without WiFi. Going down the river will be one more check off my bucket list.

I have yet to know how we'll spend the afternoon. Perhaps go for a view of the cataracts?
