Foggy by the River

Ugh. It has been yet another day when downtown New Westminster's completely socked in by fog. I can barely see any of the usual signs of life from the balcony. I'm told this happens when we get a high-pressure system parked overhead at this time of year. I've never seen a winter like this in all the years we've lived here. Supposedly, it has the useful effect of keeping our skin hydrated. People living in this won't get wrinkly; moldy maybe, but not wrinkly.

I needed an excuse to get outside and out from under this cloud. I know that tax software is cheaper in January. As an early-buyer incentive, TurboTax costs $10 less at retailers but will only during the remaining days of January. That, I assumed, would make a good reason to go to the Future Shop at Metrotown. I knew I could get there and back on one ticket, as the second largest mall in all of Canada is just 12 minutes away by SkyTrain. And it's getting bigger, the mall that is. The Station Square part of Metrotown is under construction. I guess the Burnaby Future Shop is closed due to the entire east end of the land having cranes and construction. I walked all the way around it.


Crossing Kingsway to the Best Buy at 2:15 pm
I had to walk to the other side of Kingsway to the Best Buy. I spent $2.10 on today's ticket to save $10. Also, I had to walk about two miles though the mall. Yet it was good exercise and very sunny up on the hill in Burnaby! My train slithered back into the choking cloak of fog when coming home. Sigh.
