Just last fall, we discovered Kuala Lumpur for the first time. We routed through Shanghai, China. That could very well be the way we get to Sri Lanka in the future. We have always flown westward from Vancouver. Yet nowadays, Cathay Pacific has good no deals and Singapore Air stopped serving Vancouver all together.
It seems that we can continue to venture to Colombo going west by first landing somewhere on the other side of the Pacific. Then, we can take AirAsia, a discount carrier based out of Malaysia. I am so glad to see the growth of that company with its no-frill business model. Here's a map with their current destinations.
The only other good news for the YVR-CMB sector is the commencement of non-strop service on Emirates Airlines from Seattle to Dubai. The Canadian government was too bullheaded and shortsighted to open up the skies a little, choosing to instead protect the main national carrier. Many times when we have far to travel, we've found Seattle a viable option.
Go ahead, Air Canada employees, strike! If you do, you are only cutting your own throats.
