The kid's petting zoo is a nice, local tradition in Queen's Park in New Westminster, British Columbia. It's a summer-only area that's free to the public although they welcome donations. Its origins may stretch back to the 1906 opening of a municipal zoo which included bears, coyotes, cougars and deer. Today, we saw nothing quite so wild.
This is the opening as the zoo always welcomes visitors from the Victoria Day long weekend. The number of creatures looked a little sparse today, but I'm sure it'll host more as the summer commences. The goats, pigs, sheep, rabbits, chicks, and turkeys looked a bit chilly but happy enough. The peacock was especially boastful making sure he slowly turned 'round and 'round so that everybody would notice his expansive plumage.
