I was surprised when getting the mail today. There's seldom much important or surprising that arrives that way nowadays. Although I pay all bills using online banking, I don't turn off the paper bills. I figure companies like my credit card or telephone company should give me an incentive if they want me to go paperless. I know it costs them money to send by post, but they don't seem willing to give me a bit of the money they'd save. On a fair number of days, absolutely nothing other than advertising arrives in my box.
Today, though, there was an envelope from Washington State. Upon opening, I found an invitation to the university graduation of Benjamin Joel Thomas.
I found this photo of Jay with Ben and his sister. It was taken in Lake Kachess, quite literally. (In the summer of 1996 the water must have been low due to the release of a lot of water through the dam.) This picture was taken in September. We had arrived from the Middle East a few months prior to this visit to Lynne and Joel's cabin. How could enough time have passed for the little guy in the photo to become a university graduate?
