Is it just me, or do others feel very little allegiance nowadays towards the banks they use? Having options is always good for a consumer. Competition is good and it can be used to leverage the best deal from any financial institution.
I get no warm and fuzzy feelings from going into a bank branch because, perhaps, I never got a free toaster oven. In reality, I can count on just one hand the number of times I've actually talked to a bank teller in the last year! (Thank you, Internet banking.) I didn't know until I was quite old that a bank can certainly do better than its posted rates. I generally know what I want to do with my money and do not need any hand-holding by their, so-called, financial experts.
After I got home from class today, I went on the web and used the telephone. I have a new goal which deals with some of our savings and I wanted to see which bank could give me the best deal. As it involves a currency exchange as well as term deposits, I must get the full facts from a number of places. It's in the best interest (pun) of the bank to give me a poor deal. Conversly, it's up to me to make sure it's the best. Herein lies the chance for a lot of negotiation.
People with just one banker are either poor, lazy, or plain stupid.
My money sits in a number of different places including this credit union.
