It used to be my TV showed, well, mostly television programs. The flat screen is on at the moment displaying a cooking program. That doesn't sound so special but it's not PBS. It happens to be originating from Sri Lanka. The program is called Rasasraniya, and most obviously sponsored by Maggi brand! (Quite frankly, I am not sure how that company's managed to create a market for coconut-milk powder on an island which is full of real coconuts, but that's another blog entry.) The program is streaming from Swarnavahini over the Internet to my living room. My old PC is basically my media server nowadays.
The same screen is attached to a satellite receiver / recorder as well. So a majority of screen time is probably piped through that device. Another device attached to this screen is my PS3. It plays regular DVD's and Blu-ray discs which we order from a mail order rental company. Also recently, it has been showing movies and TV programming through Netflix Canada's streaming service. The PS3 application manages to show content in HD nearly as well as any other source.
TV isn't just TV anymore.
