It seemed a little like someone pulled a switch for the past weekend. Bam! Our rainy season has now begun. I can't believe how I now long for the rain of Vancouver's winter. During my first year living here, I wondered why I felt depressed. It wasn't the drastic changes in life; it was simply the acute lack of sunshine between November and March. After years in the Persian Gulf, the change was too abrupt. I hadn't acclimated.
Now, I look forward to the gray clouds and rain much more than I probably should. I will happily forgo the white snow and crisp blue skies of winter months elsewhere. Things just seem, somehow, more relaxing and comfortable when it's dark. Nature has adapted to this climate with enthusiasm and so have I.
