It seems we've been taking our big, annual vacation during September and October in recent years. While that's a perfect time for travel, unfortunately, it also means that we miss the best fruit season in British Columbia. On our trip to the Langley Farm Market today, we noticed that all the local Okanogan plums, apricots, and nectarines are gone. It's back to off-season apples and imported bananas until next year! How very sad!
I do find that vegetable markets are generally good here though. There seem to be such a larger variety of produce than when I was growing up. Perhaps, we're closer to California or our large Asian community demands a wider variety of vegetables in BC. Or, it could be that growers are happy to grow more niche fruits and vegetables.
Whatever the reason, I'm happy to see such a wide variety of new items on the shelves. I'm also happy with the modern twists on very familiar things, like these mini pumpkins.
