I'm on the couch typing on my netbook. The computer equipment is still all connected but it's now sitting on the floor. I just dropped my old computer desk off at the Salvation Army Thrift Store. My favourite reclining chair is sitting in the back of the truck waiting to be accompanied by all the carpeting from the bedroom. In the future they'll head to the landfill but there's really no need to do that today. There is something terribly liberating about getting rid of personal stuff. I brought that recliner new at a Sears outlet store. The computer desk came from Staples, I think. The problem of having lived so long in one place is I really can't attach a date to either of those purchases. I'm sure both have been around for at least six to eight years. They were functional if not very attractive. Yet, knowing the carpeting in the whole apartment will be replaced on Tuesday has prompted me to think about starting fresh. We used to do that often when we worked in the Middle East. Since coming to Canada in the summer of 1996, we spent two years renting and now eleven years in this place.
I'm ready to go out and help the economy by spending some cash. Change is good.
