It's been quite a while since I mentioned a movie here. Strangely, a large number of the hits to my eJournal and images arrive through image searches for classic movies. I nearly always include a photo or graphic with my daily entries, so on those days I discuss a movie, I pop the DVD into my computer and capture a screen image.
Whereas most blogged movie pictures are probably from current or recent blockbusters, most of mine come from older films for which I have some admiration. Last night we watched a Blu-ray disc of Hellboy 2 but I never post an image from a film that's only a year old. Rather, I tend to want to honour movies I consider classics. Recent films are just part of the background noise of life. Yet those which have achieved the status of a classic are more a part of our shared heritage.
Of course the image above shows Humphrey Bogart and Katharine Hepburn. The African Queen has been a favourite since I first saw it on television as a child. The technicolor equipment of the day was enormous and unwieldy, however most all the film was shot on location in central Africa. I honestly believe I got my initial desire to explore the world because of movies such as this 1951 film.
