Then, it pulled to the side to wait for some scheduled trains to pass. So, it looked as though we'd arrive 20 minutes late which was just about our connection's departure time.
The train served many small towns in its path through the mountains. The train info screens were very modern but kept showing we were not making up much time.
It was interesting to see the small towns both resourced based and agricultural. As we approached the Dobova Station the land flattened out and we made up a little time. The screens showed we would have just a few minutes to connect to the train that'd take us into Zagreb.
Our final leg would be on an ÖBB train that had started from Zurich. We disembarked and crossed under to tracks but there was no train there yet. It was 15 minutes later than we were! About 30 people were also changing trains and waited with us.

It was a very scenic and easy way to travel to from that capital city to this one. We got out of the rather grande but faded train station and only had to cross the street and some tram tracks to check in at the Hotel Central.

By the looks, there will be enough to see and do in this city until our planned Thursday departure. We cannot take a train from here to Belgrade and must buy tickets for a five and a half hour bus ride. Today though, we needed to go get a late lunch. We headed towards 'old town' and found lots of pleasant choices before picking a restaurant.

When coming back to the hotel we did find the location to buy a three-day-pass for the numerous trams in the city. It is spread out and jumping on the trams should save us a lot of walking over the next couple of days.
