Day 9 - Our three-day transit passes kicked in today. Right after a really fantastic buffet breakfast at the Central Hotel in Zagreb, we walked out to try them out. First, we shored up our departure from this lovely city for Thursday. We took a tram #2 to the main bus station. It's probably about a kilometer from our hotel and just three stops.
We bought tickets on the 9:00 am Flix bus to Belgrade, Serbia. We've taken trains so far on this journey but there currently is no service between these two cities. Our bus trip is scheduled to take 5.5 hours. It's nice to have the reservation in hand and not waiting until the last minute. Now we know exactly how quickly it'll be to get to the main station.
We immediately got on a #2 tram going back in our hotel's direction and stayed on it thinking it might head directly to the Ban Jelačić Square. It didn't. However, it eventually got to a stop and we hopped on #6 tram in the right direction. How relaxing to leave the driving to others! We enjoyed the comfortable seats and air conditioning.
It was pretty warm today. It reached about 30C but the sun felt really nice and the breeze naturally kept us comfortable when exploring the area of upper and lower town.

Some of the things we would have done today were not possible. For example Zagreb Cathedral is still under renovation because of damage from the 2020 earthquake. In addition, the funicular between the lower and upper towns is closed due to renovation work too.
We still had an excellent day walking around and soaking in the environment. We surely got our money's worth from the tram passes. We didn't come back to the hotel until after 9:00 pm.
