Day 10 - This is our last full day at the Hotel Central in Zagreb, Croatia. We got up and ate our second breakfast downstairs. There is such a variety and good quality that it is hard not to eat too much. So, of course I did.
We figured it might be fun to see the zoo here. We found that we could go by taking a tram from right out front. It took us around a half hour. We got off at the stop at the far end of the zoo area and walked to the other end. The area was gorgeous and many of the exhibition areas were well prepared. I wasn't terribly impressed with the collection of animals but it is park of large park lands, so pleasant on a warm day such as today.
We saw that another tram would take us right to the large square near the old town. We like that area because of the bustle and activity. We also enjoy stopping as everyone seems to to sip on something under the many outside seating for the restaurants. I had an interesting lager from here. We continued on to eat lunch at a place we found yesterday. It was sort of a take-away place for locals offering home-made-type, comfort food. The cafeteria style made it easy to try a number of dishes. We used the inside seating.
However, for dinner tonight, we bought bread, olive cream cheese, and regular cheese at the supermarket. Jay and I feel that we've been eating far too much on this trip. We're always full. Today we went for our breakfast at close to 9:00 am. Tomorrow, our Flix bus to Belgrade, Serbia should start rolling at exactly that time. We'll get up earlier and probably should go to bed a bit earlier too.
So far on this trip we've only spent euros. Serbia has applied to join the EU but is still working on that front. We will spend Serbian dinars in Belgrade. Well actually, we'll continue to simply touch our credit cards. However it'll be billed at a currency in which the unit is about equivalent to a US penny. Therefore, US $10 equals around 1025 dinars at the moment.
