A WALK IN THE PARK
Day 13 - I guessed that around 25% of the land of Warsaw was public parks. I just confirmed my hunch by checking for facts online. As today is Sunday, we picked today's goal to see Łazienki Park. It is around 76 hectacres not far from the middle of the city. Its history goes back to the 17th century but it became a public park in 1918.
We took trolley #18 from our hotel right to one edge of the area. We've been doing around 10 kilometers of walking per day since we left home. And today was no different.
A FREE CONCERT IN THE PARK
Of course we did our walking in the morning before noon. This park is known for its free 'Chopin in the Park' piano concert series. It's been going on for 65 summer Sundays. Warsaw is proud of the composer that hailed from here. In fact, although Frédéric Chopin died in 1849 and was buried in Paris, his heart was returned here to Warsaw.
LUNCH IN A TURKISH RESTAURANT
I have already mentioned a few times that eating in restaurants in Warsaw is reasonably priced. We don't often eat out when home. It's not so much the cost, it's just the fact we don't generally classify a restaurant as a type of entertainment. When travelling it is a necessity and we do take pleasure in doing so.
This was a late lunch and was very nicely done. We paid around $US 12 for Jay's chicken plate and the same for my beef kofta. I think the cheapest food in Canada is more than that nowadays.
IRONMAN MARATHON NEAR OUR HOTEL
For the third day, we were aware of the sports enthusiasts at and around our hotel. A number of specialized, expensive bicycles were in travelling kits. It seems as though an official IRONMAN® trialthalon has been taking place. The ending took place at a sports complex next door to our hotel.
