This photo is dated April 20, 2015. It was near the end of our first winter away from British Columbia.
We stayed in a rental place in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico for five months. It was a brilliant introduction on how to escape from the copious winter rain of Metro-Vancouver.
Yet, we were no strangers to PV as we had first discovered it on a 2008 Carnival cruise from San Diego. We returned in 2010 on a trip that included time in the city of Guadalajara too. Then again, in 2012, we travelled to Puerto Vallarta during a school break in February. That was the time we met Tim and his friends, Rita and Silas, during our one-week visit. Therefore, after we no longer held jobs in 2014, we knew it'd be an easy winter location for us to live. And it was.
From the time of this picture until today, we've not been back. Our avoidance wasn't part of a plan; we simply didn't find an opportunity. We very much liked the vibe of this part of Mexico even though it has now been over eight years since we've set foot there. That is something we will soon change.
We had been looking for something to do for Jay's birthday week in September. Today, I noticed relatively inexpensive, return flights from YVR to PVR on Expedia. From here, connecting flights are never convenient and end up wasting a whole day. Yet, it takes only around five hours to fly directly. On the 8th of September, Jay will be able to celebrate turning a year older in a special location.
