We recently bought tickets for yesterday's final show of this musical at the Massey Theatre. It was in our old, community theatre up by the high school in New Westminster. Our show was a matinee performance. Of course, as it was Mother's Day, most all the seats were sold and lots of moms were in attendance.
Jay and I know a number of musicals either from movies or live shows. The only thing we knew about yesterday's show was that it was billed as 'The New Gershwin Musical Comedy'. So it was fun to see the energetic dance and musical numbers.
We were surprised by the size of the orchestra. We got a good view because we bought cheap, last-minute seats. In the second row right we were still happy as we could, at least, see the performers up close.
Yesterday was the hottest day of the year. The air conditioning in the Massey was fine and it was a rather pleasant way to get out of the record-breaking heat in the dark comfort of the 70-plus-year-old building.
The Royal City Musical Theatre puts on a Broadway production every year. Yesterday's had been postponed for two or three years. We will plan on seeing all the future productions!
