Day 83 - We successfully completed yesterday's task today by changing a $US 100 bill to 37,500 Argentian pesos as cash. Interestingly, it was at the same spot we had done so once before, although we did not plan it that way. We left the subway at Lavalle and wandered around the pedestrian streets for a bit. Today's weather seemed much nicer and the results were better too.
At home, I remembered to take two photos from our bedroom window. We're right on Avenida de Mayo at the Saenz Peña station. In fact in the photo below you can see one entrance to the 110-year-old, original subway Line A on the opposite side of the street. That's pretty much how we get around this sprawling city.
From the same location, this next image looks up. The tall, whiter tower on the left is the Palacio Barolo building. It was the tallest structure in South America until 1935. It is truly a fascinating building both inside and out. We have only walked in the lobby but should arrange for a tour of it. It has a lighthouse beacon at its top. If you would like to learn more about the building which was given National Historical Monument status, you can read this entry on Wikipedia.
