Day 35 - At breakfast, I spread a bit of 'dulce de leche' on some bread. Who doesn't like burnt sugar? Oh my, this stuff is going to go on nearly anything! It sounds weird but one thing we like about travelling is visiting foreign supermarkets. One can tell a lot of about a peoples by how they organize the selection and quantity of food for sale.
So far, as we're right in the center of the main city, we've been visiting smaller supermarkets. It seems there are only around three or four main brands but they have branch stores every few blocks. Unlike small convenience stores at home, these are competing for customers by selling at cheap prices. The selection of food seems a bit small to us. But boy, do Argentinians like meat, specifically beef! We haven't seen much in the way of fish or chicken in the places near us.
Today, we walked to a branch of a Carrefour. That is a large French multinational retail and wholesaling corporation. We have shopped in many of them in the past from Dubai, Europe, and even Bali. This branch was on Avenida 9 de Julio. That's the widest avenue in the world named for Argentina's Independence Day.
I noted many Christmas cakes in the store. This plus the fact I have hit the AI-generating websites, means it's time for a fake Christmas tree in this blog. Oh, and although I'm not going to see any here, I added frosty windows. Best wishes for the holidays.
