Day 34 - Our 'go-to person' for our Airbnb got us a transit card this morning. No cash fares are possible on buses, trains, or the underground system. Cash can be carried on SUBE cards and it's possible for two people to share one by passing the card back at the turnstiles. Right outside our tiny balcony, we look down on the original entrances to Saenz Peña of 'Line A' of the Buenos Aires underground system. This subway opened almost exactly 109 years ago today! So we celebrated the occasion by taking a ride to Plaza de Mayo.

We will be using the transit system extensively to visit the many neighbourhoods of this sprawling city. Each ride today cost us 40 pesos (US$ 0.13). I guess we can afford to pay again if we need to transfer to one of the other five other lines to get to a destination.
This plaza is known as a public space for political demonstrations. The temperature was heading up to the low 30°s on the Celsius scale and the sun was bright.
There was a lot of activity near Casa Rosada, the location of the presidential offices. I could almost picture Eva Paron on one of its balconies. Okay, I am probably only remembering Madonna singing from the 1996 movie. However, the scene was actually shot here!
