I did stop up at Queens Park when coming back from picking up an Amazon parcel at a drop-off location. I had ordered some long-sleeve t-shirts last week and the site said they'd not be a two-day delivery. I didn't know if they'd come when we were away on a road trip to Penticton, so, I used the Shopper's Drug Mart postal outlet. It's easy to pick up Amazon items there, even if not quite as effortless as our apartment door. I plugged the car a bit while going for a tiny walk in Queen's Park on a great morning. Jay had gone to the gym at the community center.
This afternoon was special as Tim and Jiwan arrived at 2:00 pm. As downtowners, they don't do suburban shopping often. They've been friends for decades but always arrive by transit and have never really visited all of New Westminster.
After parking on the mall roof, we visited the uptown Walmart. Then we drove to Queensborough a part of town on an enormous island in the middle of the Fraser River. We went to a store that sells all sorts of food products only by bin. It's called the Bulk Barn and it's hard not to love, especially, as we had coupons for $5 off if one spends $20. We and they easily managed to do that. We walked into the next-door Walmart too. It is only one one floor but a fair bit larger than the uptown one. In both though, the guys bought items.
We then went to the new Port Royal section of Queensborough. This was the plan for the afternoon. The whole neighbourhood is perched on the end of Lulu Island and really is the point at which the mighty Fraser River branches into the north and south forks before entering the sound. We probably walked 3 or 4 kilometers in the sunshine on a perimeter boardwalk.
Finally, we tried the buffet at the Starlight Casino. Tim and Jiwan had new Encore cards printed and used them for 10% off the now $30 buffet. The buffet is only open for dinners on Friday, Saturdays, and Sundays nowadays. It wasn't quite as good or expansive as before COVID restrictions. However, we all ate too much and left full.
At 8 o'clock we drove back in and the guys took the SkyTrain back to the West End in Vancouver as it runs right at the base of our building.
