Yesterday, the Internet started acting up. Apparently, the wifi repeater failed and as we're far from the router on the first floor, we had very spotty connection to it. Our Airbnb hosts are very helpful and quick to rectify problems.
Alma's husband arrived with a new Mesh Network connection for us. Another box sits somewhere else. I really had never done any research on home mesh networks and so I did a little reading up. It is definitely interesting technology. The little point has a touch bar. When logging onto it for the first time, the whole top must be pressed. This prevents people from outside gaining access to the house's Internet connection. The base router is set up with the necessary passwords, so putting extra points around the house is super easy. Supposedly, traffic is routed for best reception on the fly.
However, just as our Internet access was fixed, the older LG LED TV stopped working. Alma's husband had a electrical tester and power was coming in through the cord, so it must have been a TV power supply problem. Our hosts had to research and order a new TV online. It won't get here until Friday! Luckily, there are three rental places in this building and one of the downstairs units was empty. Last night, we switched TVs and we're using the other one.
I always travel with an old Google Chromecast which gives us access to our Netflix and Prime accounts through my phone and our tablets. It is all set up now. The OTA DTV is all in Spanish here, but it is fun to watch the news and guess what it going on. One channel plays old Mexican music and movies too. I also brought along a Google-Mini speaker so I can ask Google to stream our Vancouver all-news radio and listen to podcasts and Spotify on demand.
Now all our information is coming through the Steren MESH Network point that is sitting under the replacement TV.
